That BW article is a hoot. <<If implemented, they would reduce the world's vulnerability to wars in the Middle East, production snafus in Russia, turmoil around the Caspian Sea, and other potential disruptions.>>

If the developing world keeps developing, we will have to do all the types of things mentioned in these types of articles. There will always be a very tight balance between supply and demand as supply is very expensive to create and maintain and demand growth is relentless.

It does not matter where our supply comes from in the intermediate term. So if we manage to not buy any oil from Saudia Arabia and they implode, we along with their customers are just as screwed.

As far as Iran goes, I dont think the Mullahs are laughing off the Axis of Evil declaration of the President any more. We wont need to invade Iran, my bet is the younger generation will see what we are doing in Iraq and decide they want to be liberated as well. But I think they will liberate themselves maybe with a little discreet help the the USA.

Cheer up, we have just freed tens of millions of people from some of the worst oppression in recent history. President Bush has made a tremendously positive impact on the 21st century.

I don't see why you think that reliance on oil has so much bearing on US foreign policy. I really don't think that is an issue given how little of US energy needs comes from the middle east.
