ED, Took me 2 minutes to find this source: How many could I find in an hour? We will never know...not going to comment again on the topic. Left-wing slant, long, whiny and filled with "what-ifs", it does reflect the US concern for the massing on the border of Kuwait. Your somewhat retentive attention to the word "clear" is troubling. How clear does the message have to be? What would a clear message be, Ed? Do you believe Saddam thought we would stand by and watch him annex Kuwait? Saddam took a chance. He had kicked the hell out Iran and his Army was advertised as "1 million strong". He never thought we would call his bluff. He has/had a history of being a shitty gambler.
