I notice that I wrote that the NYT discussions forums are more focused because they are specific topic-based and you wrote the conversations are less structured than here. I guess what you say is true if you think of only one thread, this one especially, which sticks mostly to Foreign Affairs. I was thinking of SI more organically, I guess, as a whole entity in which there are a lot of free form conversations whose nature on any given day is determined by the interests or moods of the participants....
