SARS not the end of civilization as we know it
IMHO (perhaps politically incorrect-oh well)

apnews.excite.com

<The number of reported SARS fatalities surged to 144 on Monday, with Hong Kong reporting seven more and the World Health Organization announcing four more deaths in China.>

I mean "surged" sounds scary

That is out of how many billions of humans are there now?
How many people will surge to their death today in the USA because they did not put on their seatbelts?

<Many of the fatalities have been elderly people or patients suffering from other chronic health problems, such as heart or kidney disease.>

To me it is just a very nasty new form of a flu type illness
the elderly and the infirm not uncommonly die from complications of the old flu type illnesses.

<Six of eight deaths reported over the weekend were people ranging in age from 35 to 52,>

A little worrisome but still not the end of the world yet.

<In Canada, the hardest hit country outside Asia, scientists at the British Columbia Cancer Agency in Vancouver worked 24 hours a day for six days to sequence the genetic code of the virus suspected of causing SARS.>

We will get this thing under control.

Now will people ever stop smoking and start fastening their seat belts?

Just these two above notioned realities kill vastly more people that SARS ever will but do not make good headlines, and it is not politically correct to get excited about them.

I apologize for my crude, crass politically incorrectness.
