I was talking about the other side. They did not attack US lightly imo. The conditions that led to it were in place for decades and all other solutions had failed.

Unfortunately so. But that will not solve the problem.

Not all need is material. People you are fighting are not doing so because they are starving. They do so because they see themselves as victims of brutal regimes supported by US and because they see their culture under assault from all directions.

This is a lighter way of saying what I said in the above paragraph. But I don't think the administration likes the solutions that will really work.
