Since I'm confident we don't intend to run the world, nor even just Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Syria, & Palestine, I'm sure your theory which springs from this premise is highly unlikely rather than distinctly possible.

When Vietnam was going on my mother felt it might expand (and she didn't trust the administration of the time). I think that is the only parallel I was alluding to- and I only mentioned it because when I was talking to my mom last night she mentioned it. I was too young to really take it in at the time. But since my mother experienced the Vietnam era, I accept the fact that she is feeling parallels.
