I'm a california republican, sortof Reagan's version of republicanism I'd say.

I will always vote against social conservatives on every ballot, no matter how bad the alternative is, I believe strongly in the separation of church and state, and feel the social conservatives are taking the country in a dangerous and irrelevant direction with all this Bible-thumping.

Remember when the republicans first gained the house with Newt Gengrich a few years ago... what was the first thing they addressed under Gengrich... prayer in school!!! Give me a break. At least this is one of the more harmless social initiatives, compared to some of their other agenda items like roeVwade. I can't believe, in this day and age, that overturning a woman's right to choose is even thinkable, its amazing the backward thinking of the social conservatives.

Aside from that, on fiscal matters I am a republican all the way. I am for abolishing most taxes and enabling private enterprise for most govt controlled monopolies, schools for example. The one exception is the military, you can't privatize that I guess. Don't fix an unbroke system for the military. But schools and prisons seem like could benefit from privitization.

I would dump social security and medicare, I think those are scams. But I would also dump prop 13 in california because I think that one is also a scam, same deal as SS it taxes the young to give to the old, who (at this point) are a wealthier demographic group. I am for turning SS into a welfare program for those that really need it.
