I tried both methods ( no beeps) and can't seem to get into safe mode. Tried the google search and they recommended same.

This morning when I got up I put the offending monitor back on the Dell and it did the same thing. I went to display, settings ( using the other monitor)and one monitor wuz kinda hazed out Right clicked on it box showed "attached" and "properties" clicked on "attached" and apply and it came on.

Of course I only have the one monitor card in the Compaq so I would need the safe mode which I can't seem to bring up.

As I recall this computer sometimes would go into a "sleep" mode and as there is a half moon light up on the keyboard it may be in that mode and I can't bring it out.
