Iraq is in a unique position for that part of the world. Abject poverty is the norm for the Middle East and the dictators make certain of it. Iraq's new found freedom and Democratic foundation will create wealthy individuals without having to pillage to do so. Laws protecting civil and property rights are inherent to a Democratic government. These rights will create many new Bill Gates's of Iraq and the wealth effect will spill over to the masses. Iraqi oil barons will be created from Iraqi wildcatters of today. All institutions in the new Iraq will flourish and they will have the same social nets and budgetary problems as all the rest of us.

...and yet, ...

Saudi Arabia will remain a fixture of the past. Its people will continue to suffer through inadequate living conditions and high unemployment. They will continue to be taught by clerics who wish to keep them in the dark and under their thumb and yet they will see the new light of their Northern brothers making money hand over fist. How much longer could the anathema of the Saudi system hold up under those conditions?
