The effect is simple - our soldiers are now subject to torture.

Our soldiers have always been subject to mistreatment and torture from the brutal and totalitarian regimes we have fought....Japan, Germany, NK, Iraq....

The debate is whether we should fight fire with fire....Personally, I don't think we should stoop to that level....but it is a matter probably worth debating at least as Douchewitz suggests......

There is at least superifcial merit to the argument that the US should not bind itself to fight by the "Marquis of Queensbury Rules" while the other side is free to kick, bite, scratch and gouge at every opportunity....

BTW, if "morality" were the only test to justify the war in Iraq...it would be very hard indeed to find a reason NOT to justify removing Saddam and freeing the Iraqi populace....

More than morality was involved in that decision.
