I can understand that the concept of nation building sounds very appealing but its a very expensive and not very rewarding process.

There is no place on earth we could more benefit than by doing what is necessary to install a democracy.

You don't get it. This is what it takes to eliminate the threat of another 9/11.

Yes it can be but Iraq in stark contrast to Afghanistan has a national asset to fund their rebirth. Perhaps it's not fair, but money has to come from somewhere. So Afghanistan is not forgotten, just not funded as well so things will go much slower by comparison.
