Without govt. intervention? You must be kidding. The economy has already had massive amounts of government intervention. The Fed has reduced interest rates 6 or 7 times in a very short period. The Government is running huge budget deficits. We have had massive amounts of monetary and fiscal stimulus by the Government. Go back and study Econ 101.

There has been plenty of intervention already. And it doesn't matter whether or not there is further intervention. This is a long-term trend and almost nothing can stop it. Neither Greenspan's printing presses, nor a war a month everywhere across the globe.

Jake, the Fed has pretty much stated no more interest rate cuts. That leaves only tax increases to allow "federal spending stimulation" of the economy since the consumer is reluctant or unable to muster the same. IOW the consumer/avg. citizen is not able to discern what is in his own enlightened self interest.
