WESTERN IRAQI DESERT: The commander of the Iraqi army's Anbar sector command, who led 16,000 troops with control extending to the Syrian border, surrendered to US forces on Tuesday, a French news agency correspondent reported.

"I am ready to help. Thank you for liberating Iraq and making it stable," Iraqi General Mohammed Jarawi told US Colonel Curtis Potts after signing the surrender in the western Iraqi desert.

Potts said that US forces would now move through the area to put out of service the hundreds of tanks, armoured personnel carriers and other vehicles belonging to the Anbar command, but stressed they would not be destroyed.

<...and what of Russia? I would like to know more about these Western assassins. >

Russian has 12 billon $ outstanding against Iraq, all these junk tanks and junk armaments are Russian products.

They need this money and they need the contract of the 2nd largest filed development to be respected by the new government. Russian apparent support is also based on pacification of its 10% very volatile Muslim population.

Chechnyan are one case example, by looking to be on the side of Saddam Russians appeared to be soft on Islam, as Saddam by all standards was made synonymous with a gentle Islamic struggle of a weak against strong, albeit very misplaced and entirely non sensical. When Russian attack they attack big and do it ruthlessly like the Theatre gas elimination of terrorists and hostages, collateral damage in face of state interest have a very little regard in Russian polity. It is a joke to see them trying ot attain a high moral ground in this freedom of Iraq struggle, no one had contributed more than Russians to keep this man in power with their sale of antiquated weapons. One other things super power wannabees don’t like is receiving this kind of thrashing of their arms, the night vision elimination of tanks without any loos of the coalition puts a huge question mark on their abilities and strategic balance.
