It's my understanding Ford and GM are two of the US companies who played fast and loose with pensions.

They took lengthy contribution holidays to boost earnings, and bought lots of their own stock in the pension plan to keep everybody happy.

All great in a bull market. Now, it's a double whammy and what analysts describe as a glass ceiling on earnings. Also why "keeping the market up" is such a mantra.

Yes hard to believe they're in such shape after such a massive consumer bubble that led to incredible auto sales.
