It is a sad statement that public figures have to watch what they say so closely so that no one statement can be taken out of context. The media is so hungry for one-liner headlines that they will disregard context in a heartbeat for that titillating quote... Not to mention misquotes (e.g. leaving out "a bit" in that Wallace quote).

Think about how difficult that makes it for a public figure. No wonder Bush stutters all the time! <g>

The ones that can do it without stuttering or lengthy pauses are definitely outside the norm. It also explains why politicians love to disregard the question and answer with their canned/rehearsed responses.
