I guess we are in the position of Russian aristocrats who were supported by a vast population of serfs or near-serfs. Tolstoy depicts a total fool in Anna Karenina who after he has had a good bit to drink begins saying (in earshot of some peasants) "The serf works and works and we get all the money. Why should this be? Why should this be? We do nothing at all, and all he does is work."

Actually I guess Americans do work, especially farmers, but we get our clothing for next to nothing. Walmart had some perfectly good, well-made windbreakers yesterday marked down to $15. That's probably less than the cost of the cotton, polyester, and nylon that went into them. The Chinese labor is free.

KT,

I would like to buy a few gold coins.

Do you have any suggestions on where and how I should purchase them so I don't have to pay too much of premium over the value of the gold and can be sure I am not getting screwed?

Anything else I should know?

Wayne
