I simply think Eagleburger is not thinking through his statements -- as evidenced by the major blunder before the war that he has had to recant.

Before the war, Eagleburger said we did not have the right to invade Iraq. He was right. I have not seen where he's recanted his opinion.

Eagleburger isn't spinning propaganda, the Bushies are.
After all the cheerleading, it remains an open question whether this war was a good idea. Our military performed great but now what? Which is the lesser evil?

In international affairs that is always the question. Military force alone cannot "correct" the world from a Bushie point of view because most of the world doesn't share Bushie values, nor do they trust Bushies.

Shocking as if may seem to Bushies, yes indeed this war took place primarily for two reasons - domestic politics (swiping the November election) and oil. No other reasons come close except a measure of revenge for 9-11 against Arabs in general, since we can't find Osama, and Bush's own personal revenge for his father's legacy.

The WMD's argument is looking very weak now, and even weaker is the Bushie argument Saddam posed any real threat to us. We haven't even found one SCUD yet.

Saddam was a paper tiger. And post-war Iraq is a mess. The weakest argument of all is we wanted to liberate the Iraqi people. Frankly, once we get the oil-fields under control I think Bushies will want to get the hell out of there and leave the mess to the Iraqis. Especially now that the Shias look like they might rebel against the Bushie puppet government. It will be better than Saddam, and no one will miss him, but maybe not much better. Most important, it will be a US-friendly government, and give us a big military base from which we can intimidate Iraq's neighbors.
