Target selection during active operations also excluded archaeological and antiquities sites.

Unfortunately, the looters had their own target selections made after Saddam fell.

I see no excuse for failing to protect the Museum and the Library. A few troops is all it would have taken. The effort involved could not have been too daunting. Too late now. I hope the effort Powell announced to get the antiquities back is successful, but I'm a cynic.

The only black eye on an otherwise flawless operation.
