Saudis asked US to leave if Saddam was ousted, in the flurry of all that pre-war controversy. I was told the entire reason US was allowed there was due to Saddam, but I haven't been able to verify that. The least we can do is skip the tax incentives for the SUVs (oh I forgot these are really helping "small business") and other incentives for gas guzzlers. Put some money into that hydrogen car and some other non-petroleum fuels. It seems to me we could have broken this oil habit years ago with the proper incentives. Look how easy it is to cut down on air travel, now that there is some perceived risk in it.
