Taiwan's Silicon Integrated Gets Long-Term Intel License
Tuesday April 15, 10:16 pm ET

TAIPEI -(Dow Jones)- Taiwan's Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. said Wednesday it has signed a long-term licensing agreement with the world's largest chipmaker, Intel Corp.

The deal will allow SiS to use Intel technology related to its new 800 megahertz system bus, a vital technology license needed by SiS to develop and manufacture computer chipset products used with Intel central processors.

A chipset is the pair of chips inside a personal computer that regulate the flow of information between the central processor and other chips, like memory and graphics. It is among the most important chips inside a PC for determining overall speed.

In a company filing to the Taiwan Stock Exchange, SiS called the licensing deal "long term" but didn't give an exact time frame.

SiS' main rival, VIA Technologies Inc. , inked a similar deal with Intel last week.
