I think there have been about 100 American car companies, maybe more.

Same problem -- huge capex, huge labor problem.

But I disagree -- airlines have been the most troubled industry in only SW plus maybe one other has consistently made money. Sometime, if you see it, it is interesting to look at annual industry profits back the industry's inception. I saw this years ago when in grad school and was amazed that they could even raise capital. It is worse now...
