Almost. Puts are the opposite of calls, just like going
short is the opposite of going long with stocks.

Puts are options just like calls. You sell puts when you
think a stock is going up, just like you sell calls because
you think a stock is going to go down, or stay flat.

You can buy puts if you think the market is going down,
just like you can buy calls if you think the market is
going up.

I've probably confused you, but I think that what I
described is correct.
