Hi energyplay, We don't yet know the ancestry of the 20 or so US residents who brought the virus back from HK and China True, but all of them had/have significant contact with Asian interests, so it's probably fair to presume that there's a higher percentage of folks with Asian ancestries on the SARS victims lists, excluding medical staff victims. I wonder if there is a behavioural compenent -like smoking, prehaps ? I read something about an attempt to correlate smoking and SARS victims (I forget where), but as I recall, the available underlying data did not support the theory. I would presume that it's safe to guess that smoking doesn't help though... For what it's worth, the primary factor in catching SARS seems to be repeated exposure and close contact with another SARS victim. Even in the Amoy Gardens epidemic, it now appears that casual hygiene on the part of residents who were exposed to the virus on things like door handles, elevator buttons, handrails, mailboxes, small items that one might routinely pick up and handle, etcetera seems to be the sole mode of transmission. And casual hygiene means not quickly and thoroughly washing one's hands after exposure, but using a more normal routine of cleanliness. This is not to imply that these residents weren't using proper hygiene; more implies that at the time of exposure they weren't using ultra-hygiene methods... KJC
