The whole point of the 'sabre rattling' was so that Assad would know exactly why his oil was being cut off.

Assad will find it difficult to harbor Saddam's henchmen for any great length of time. Eventually, some of them will wallow up to the surface, but more importantly, in about a year or so when there is a new Iraqi government the Iraqis themselves will be demanding the extradition of these criminals back to Baghdad.

There are a lot of people in Baghdad who would like to see these people put on trial to answer for their deeds. If Assad isn't careful he'll end up in a clash between two Moslem governments with himself in the middle. Who knows, the Iraqis may end up with their own troops on his border.

I honestly wonder if he's able to see that far ahead. It's not that he lacks intelligence, but experience.
