WF, The intro to the live version of "Rednecks" helped me understand Randy better. He mentioned how he wrote the song because he saw Lester Maddox being interviewed on tv by, in Newman's words, a yankee Jew. He said the guy was making fun of Maddox. "Maddox is an idiot, but damn it, he's our idiot." I believe that Lester was short, though every time I picture him, I see Ross Perot in my mind. That isn't fair, because Ross is not a bigot or an idiot, though he is nuttier than a fruitcake. BTW, how bi-polar are folks in Georgia to elect Lester governor and then follow him with Jimmy Carter? g>
