OT -- JRI, before you get too excited, remember who the Royals have played so far. Detroit will likely be the worst team in baseball this year (yes, worse than the Devil Dogs) and Cleveland is very bad (they were very bad last year, and now they don't have Thome). and the White Sox are vastly over-rated, IMO; beyond Buehrle their pitching is simply terrible; they are the AL version of the Rockies. Minnesota has taken their losses against the Blue Jays (better than anybody the Royals have played to date) and the Yankees. Minnesota is not so light-hitting as you think, though they are not going to remind anyone of the '61 Yankees. also, recall that Kansas City had a nine-game winning streak in the midst of their terrible season last year; this one just happens to be coming at the beginning of the year. and since you're an AL central fan, i'm sure you remember the fast start of Cleveland last year, which amounted to nothing.

but importantly, there is HOPE. if the arms are for real (and Hernandez really looks like the real deal), and Sweeny and Beltran stay, and if a couple more arms in the minors develop, this team could be challenging with the Indians for Central supremacy in 2 years. i figure they'll (the Royals) win 80-ish games this year. and they will be VERY entertaining to watch, which is something that hasn't been seen in KC for a longgggg time.

Cheers

OT -- JRI, check out the Red Sox box score from last night. Ramiro Mendoza (guy i was counting on to help our pen; shows you what i know) threw 9 pitches and gave up 4 earned runs. i don't think i've ever seen anything like that.

Cheers
