That's right Duke,

To avoid the disaster of maybe being backordered on a newly released chip (which they've never, ever let happen before), Intel announced to the world that the P4's they'd been shipping were defective.

That way, when Andy Bryant was interviewed about the quarterly results, he got to answer questions asking why the Pentium 4 had been recalled and how long it would be before the Pentium 4 began shipping again.

Brilliant marketing move. Thank goodness telling people the new chip's defective stopped those horrible backorders.
