Cutting it off should have been negotiated. Cutting off oil abruptly is an economic calamity for most countries, I'm sure this is true for Syria. Bush should have used the threat of cutting off oil as a way to get terrorists back if he wanted them. Or, even better, the promise of more oil to Syria if they returned whoever they have.

Only Bush's staff is so stupid as to create a catastrophe and expect it to improve negotiations. What I can't believe is that Powell has fallen into the Bush version of "diplomacy" (shoot first). I thought Powell was better than that.
