Not necessarily so. But, in any case, people can have strong convictions and still be civil to people who don't share those convictions. I've found conservatives in my life haven't always been civil when they find out that I don't share their convictions.

True conservatives like Mother Teresa have strong positions but they are also consistent (against abortion, but also against death penalty for example). Even if we disagree with them, we can still respect them.
