When Interpol and others finish their investigation, I think we will find that it was the former leader of Iraq and professional robbers that took the articles.

I read that the 4 or 5 remaining staff in the museum had put many of the treasured pieces into a specially built safe. The safe was thought to be nearly impossible to assault. The glass cases and the safe had all been entered and broken into with specialized equipment. The staff said it was Saddam's faydihein (??sp) that had come in to "protect the valuables" and the staff was required to leave the building.

Some people only believe the things they want to believe.

There is an english saying that people in glass houses should not throw stones. You may want to research that one.

On the Opium wars (it was 2 separate ones), a little reading might do everyone some good. The 1st was in 1839 and the second in 1856 (but I guess it could be viewed as a single conflict).

A horrid affair - reminds me what we would think if the Columbians went to war with us to force us to import cocaine.

On shooting the looters, don't you think thats a bit draconian? We don't even know if there was anything left when US forces arrived. Various reports have security services in the building shortly before Baghdad fell.

>>but what would your reaction have been to Marines shooting looters?<<
I would applaude for the US marines because they would have done the mankind a big favor, and most of Iraqi people would applaude too.

Well, you can speak for yourself but as for the others...I cannot imagine you are correct.

(But this is purely a hypothetical so we'll never know...)
