Lance Lewis tonight:

A friend of mine pointed out an interesting factoid today. Since the all-time high on the Dow Industrials in January of 2000, there have been only three prior instances of the VIX index being 27 percent or more below its 200 day moving average. Those instances were: August 29th, 2000 (three days later saw a major top), July 2nd, 2001 (the major indexes have never closed higher since that day), and March 27th, 2002 (one day later was another major peak). Yesterday became day number four, as it was also a day that the VIX closed 27 percent below its 200 day moving average. Will we see another important top in this area? With the new all-time low in the VXN yesterday and the high levels of bullish sentiment, there’s a significant probability I think. While that high might not necessarily have been today, it could easily come in the next couple days.
