You know, I remember that shortly after the events of 911 President Bush spoke in front of Congress, Tony Blair the British PM was in attendance. I no longer remember Bush's exact words, but during his speech, Bush made a reference to the British as being the greatest friends and allies that the US could have.

The next day, there was a bit of a stink about his speech in the Canadian press. Many Canadian journalists were insulted and whined about how stupid George Bush was for omitting any mention of the Canadians.

In hindsight, I think Bush realized that there were limitations to how far the Canadian government would go to help us in our war on terror. Certainly, Canada has been of valuable assistance to us, but there is no way that Chretien was prepared to go out on a limb for us like Tony Blair did.
