Well, since you brought the subject up...

The Aedes aegypti mosquito is the principal vector of dengue, dengue hemorrhagic fever (also spelled as haemorrhagic) and the much feared yellow fever. It is also thought to be a vector of encephalitis in Australia, epidemic polyarthritis (also found in Australia) and heartworm in canines.

The good news is that this mosquito is no closer to you than southern parts of Georgia, most of Florida and extreme southern parts of Texas. The insect needs tropical conditions, lots of humidity and mild winters to survive. Therefore, snow and cold prone Toronto remain relatively safe as long as the mosquito never learns how to survive an "Arctic Express"... <g>
