Hey, remember that ring around the moon that I told you
about that day? I even drew you a picture of it that time,
remember?

Well guess what.

<Clappy the dimwitted childish stooge stands up tall as if he
has something important to say.>

I found an explanation.

Here is the link: antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov
but I get the feeling it won't be there when you get back.
Actually it might be updated some time this morning so I'll
copy down the picture and their thoughts.

Here goes:

antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov

Explanation: Have you ever seen a halo around the Moon?
This fairly common sight occurs when high thin clouds
containing millions of tiny ice crystals cover much of the
sky. Each ice crystal acts like a miniature lens. Because
most of the crystals have a similar elongated hexagonal
shape, light entering one crystal face and exiting through
the opposing face refracts 22 degrees, which corresponds to
the radius of the Moon Halo. A similar Sun Halo may be
visible during the day. The picture was taken in Lansdowne,
Pennsylvania, USA. The distant planet Jupiter appears by
chance just to the left of the Moon. Exactly how ice-
crystals form in clouds remains under investigation.

---

So I wasn't seeing things after all.

<A proud smile shines upon the twit.>

Ice crystals.

Actually the ring I saw was even neater.
It looked more like my drawing (which I can't seem to find
right this second).

...just thought I'd keep you abreast of my continued
research effort.

(I just love using that word "abreast". Makes me feel like
I'm getting away with using a booby reference. And it
sort of ties in with my personal thought of how that
picture could look like a big ol' breast staring at me.
But I'm not gonna officially write that here. I try not to
let too many of my own deep personal thoughts reach cyber
space. Oops! Oh drats. This one got out. Let's see...
Damage control. (Since my backspace key is broken I have
to try my best to cover up my mistakes by backpeddling with
words.) Uhhmmm. I really don't think that picture looks
like a giant space boob staring at me. Nor does the moon
look like a space nipple calling my name. I "like" astronomy
but I don't "Lust" over astronomy. However I must say I
can't say the word astronomy without thinking how I hear
the most prominant part of that word as "Ass". And this is
happening while talking about the Moon. Another reference
to the butt. So is it a boob or a butt? Ooop!! Drats.
Another few random thoughts escaped my head and flew out to
cyberspace via my finger tips. I better stop typing and
get my backspace key fixed. This is going to drive me
crazy. And possibly ruin my good name.)
