You asked about Goldwater. I've been to his house and dated his GD. And yeah, I kinda like the aging Goldwater. But the one in the 60's was strident and hateful. Like some of the Buishie pundits today. Attack, atack, attack and exaggerate everything to the point of reactionary absurdity.

Nevertheless he paved the way for Reagan. Who was a lot smoother, and actually made some sense once in awhile. Though I take serious issue with many of RR's programs, especially the S+L deregulation, environmental un-regulation, empting mental hospitals and the scrapping of Carter's clean fuels and solar programs.

RR had a big-time dark side. But personally he was a great character and at the time we kinda needed him. And he didn't take the money for himself, he just let his handlers and cronies take it. Unfortunately for them, half of them got indicted though. Busted. In those days we had watch-dogs in DC. No more. Bushies can get away with anything. Pigs at the troughs. Until 2004 at least.
