To be honest, re India I dont care what their motives were (since I was born post-Independance), but a foundation was established.

Re Brits in Israel/Palestine - I really have not made the effort to understand the historical situation. My brief glimpse into that region comes from living in the ME for 2 years, and watching whatever the media dishes out.

India was left with a good Road and communication system, Judicial System and the railroads , but I still think that they didn't do it for the benefit of the natives, they did it for a good Control and orderly Colonization, as for the communication systems it was for the same reason the Romans did it, for the economic growth and taxes and for the easy mobilization of the Colonial Troops.

In the Israeli-Palestinian case they left very orderly with the hope of coming back, they took away the weapons from the jews and gave the Arabs all the Police Stations and fortified positions

Don't you agree?
