Hey, I agree they're going bankrupt at some point, but that chart tells me it may not be the place to be short in the near-term. Could just be a fakeout, but it's on mighty high volume. Exhaustion? Perhaps, but I covered my puts.

Recall that F's "profit" came mostly from their finance arm. From their press release:

Ford Motor Credit Company reported net income of $442 million in the first
quarter of 2003, up $186 million from earnings of $256 million in the same
period a year ago. The increase primarily reflected a lower provision for
credit losses and the net favorable impact of receivables sales
, offset
partially by the unfavorable impact of a lower level of managed receivables.

This profit compares to the ~$900M total for the whole company. Why in the world would you be taking gains from improving credit quality assumptions here?
