Israel granted amnesty to Abbas under the Oslo accords. He is immune in Israel. Abbas was known to be in Iraq but not extraditable to the US or Italy where he was wanted. he was convicted and sentenced to serve five life terms in Italy.

Abbas has long renounced violence and Israel has allowed him to travel to Gaza

Has he now? I don't know where he's ever stated he actually renounced violence, nor would I trust his word on that.

As for traveling to Gaza, the Israelis were not able to arrest him because of the Oslo Accord immunity clauses. Thus, they couldn't hold him or extradite him to the US or Italy either.

However, he was captured in Iraq. The US was not a party to that Oslo Immunity clause and is not bound by it. And the reason the US withdrew charges was procedural, since he had been granted diplomatic immunity by Iraq, when they presented him with diplomatic status.

But that diplomatic status no longer exists.. And the US has him and is not going to give him up without obtaining what it wants.. Namely to "name names" and tell us what he knows.
