US will not manage to establish political stability in Iraq: expert

New Delhi, April 17, IRNA -- An Indian expert said on Thursday that
all factions of Iraqi opposition have complete unanimity on withdrawal
of Anglo-American forces from Iraq, while emphasizing that US will not
be able to bring a political stability in Iraq in short time.
Prof A.K.Pasha, Director, Persian Gulf Studies Program, Center of
West Asian Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University New Delhi told this
to IRNA in an exclusive interview.
He said, that all Iraqi opposition groups including Shias, Sunnis
and Kurds wants the early withdrawal of British and American from
their country and this is a new development America is facing in Iraq.
"The internal development in Iraq shows that the people of this
country also wants drafting a new constitution and its approval by
the constituent assembly so that the chaos in the country created by
the foreign aggression ends", he added.
Prof Pasha said, Iraqi opposition leaders including those active
within the country as well as the ones living in the exile oppose US
General Garner's control even in a short term.
Referring to intense contradiction surfacing in Iraq after the
war, he said, while US is trying to continue its close control in Iraq
and install a puppet government in Baghdad, Iraqi Nationalists want to
take rein of the country in their own hands and this has emerged as a
political campaign among the two.
According to this expert, the people of Iraq don't expect much
from the recent Iraqi opposition meet in Nassiriyah because US is
trying to allocate sensitive posts to the people of their choice and
this is contrary to the new nationalism which is taking momentum
in Iraq.
On US designs in Iraq, Prof Pasha said, Washington will install
a puppet regime in Iraq by hook and crook and this government in
future with instructions from America will arrest those political
leaders who are opposing presence of Pentagon in Iraq and will use
force to suppress the opposition and this will be the beginning of
another form instability in Iraq.
To a question on who will be next leader of Iraq, he said, Ahmed
Chalabi the leader of Iraqi National Congress who recently admired
Indian democracy is a person many circles thinks would be the next
leader of Iraq but the Iraqi people see him as a US stooge and they
don't want him to rule the country and Washington is aware of this
phenomenon.
Referring to the opposition of Iraqi people especially the Shia
community to the domination of US, he said, in my opinion the future
government of Iraq which would be controlled by America would
suppress the leaders of this community.
On rampant violence, killings and looting in Iraq after the
military occupation of the country by US, Prof. Pasha said,
violence, arrests and the killings of political leaders will
continue for six months to one year in Iraq and the US will utilize
the Iraqi elements in exile to identify the people who are opposing
US forces and will eliminate them through different ways.
He said, the recent killing of Abdul Majid Khoei in Iraq is the
beginning of disorder, chaos and indirect killings.
He said, US has not started the war in Iraq only for oil and
changing the political geography of the region but the other
objective is to reduce the threat against Israel.
According to this expert, US will also pressurize China, Russia
and India for its energy interests.
On US long-term designs in Iraq, Prof Pasha said, Baghdad is
having a very strategic location and is almost located at the center
of the world, therefore, US by its presence in Baghdad may influence
the whole region.
On the present American unilateralism regarding world issues, he
said, unfortunately at this juncture nobody is able to stop
Pentagon's likely adventurism in Syria and other countries of the
region.
He said, the US military attack on Iraq has increased Israel's
role in the region, adding, that the pipeline project from Iraq's
Mosul to Haifa port through Jordan is the beginning of the increasing
Israeli influence and they will implement some more projects
like this.

UN Sanctions - EU and others are being played. Very soon Iraqi leader and a re-established Iraqi national oil company
will request lifting of sanctions.

This will put US on same side as Iraq in opposing the sanctions.

US may issue a 'temporary' certification of no WMDs, and unilaterally ignore sanctions.

Iraqis decide it may be in their interest to keep US around as long as they are getting charity and protection.

US can keep UN 'inspectors' out - what is Hans Blix going to do - find the weapons he couldn't find before ;-)
