This can hardly be a surprise. The land and ownership and occupation are hotly contested, in the same way that it is/has been a problem in Kosovo, in Bosnia, in the West Bank, and so on.

It's a no-win situation for anyone who tries to solve it. Who had possession first? How far back do you go? How do you prove ownership? How do you handle current owners/occupiers, and if you eject them, how do you compensate and resettle them satisfactorily?

I have no answers, for sure. And it's one of many issues that will be a burr under the saddle of future Iraq administrations, however they're composed.

I think we are deliberately letting this happen so as to justify marshall law.

Our allowing this to happen is yet another violation of the Geneva Convention.
