When the deaths were first reported, the "cause of death" was listed as "heart attack" and "blood clot" for those two deaths. Only later did the "blunt force trauma" come out. If the men had been severely mortally injured before being taken into custody, that would have been loudly and repeatedly said, every time the military was asked about it. The total absence of any further information about the deaths, since then, indicates there is nothing good (from the Pentagon PR point of view) to say about it.

They are hoping everyone just forgets about it, like we've all forgotten about the wholesale murder of prisoners in Afghanistan, and the concentration camp prisoners at Guantanamo.
