I have a long line of ministers and missionaries in my ancestor lines...and have admired the work they did, especially one of the women. She is well known in the NW ... a true pioneer woman of the 1800's who survived childbirth on the Oregon Trail, and homesteaded, raised 4 children of her own, plus was a foster mother to 11 other children, including homeless Native American children. I think that people can live by example rather than trying to "shove something down someone's throat"..... In a perfect world, we would all get along better if we just lived to the best that was in us to be...and have others if they were so inclined ask why we did what we did.... Unfortunately, it isn't a perfect world. The only fundamentalists I can admire are the Amish. They seem to be themselves, and don't seem to try to convert others to their way of thinking. I don't think the Quakers do either, but don't know any...just have them in my heritage as well. The folks I have the greatest problem with are the ones that blow themselves, and others up, or murder thousands and/or millions ...all in the name of their greater power or whatever it is they call ... And with luck, there aren't very many of the folks you referred to in your last paragraph. In the larger view of things. Their numbers are very small in comparison to the world's total people. I did a bit of research on a couple of the search engines on types of religion ...in the US there aren't lots of them. In the world, there are MANY millions of what we would call fundamentalists, and as we have seen in some examples, they most certainly are going to continue trying to change people's minds, even in violent ways, and have been quite vocal saying so.
