IT's called Harmattan. It's in my book too. There I use the fine dust particles to block sunlight and cool Africa (+6C at 12 degrees latitude above the Equator at 500m above sea level is impossible if not by blocking the Sun linght) as an example of a known natural effect on Earth, that NASA had to sent probes and spent millions of dollars to discover this effect on Mars!!! (One of my favortite past time is to joke about 'big science' by the way.) Then, I concluded, a simple desert storm in Iran aborted a US special forces trying to rescue the US hostages held by the Iranians. Showing that the army didn't know how a desert climate is right here on earth. In Europe the fine dust particule, falls on the Alpes, making the snow darker, which absorb sun light and melt more than usual. That's why they discover a mummified ancient man a few years ago. By the way the Sunsets are beatifull and photogenic under the Harmattan.

What! I replied before reading the article, thinking the article was meant to inform the readership about a localized phenomenon. Now I read to discover it is to cause a scare!!! Given the level of ignorance of the US population it can work and show that 254 million US people (10.000km away) could be affected by what 300 million West African live through every year without problems with it right on top of the heads. Now I am really thinking on a way to cash in US people ignorance. Perhaps selling Guarana -used by the US tropps in the desert as a anti-hamattan borne microorganisms.
