Without much first hand knowledge or serious financial ability(-g-) my layman's view of HPQ is that the merger reminds me of AOL Time Warner.

DELL has kicked butt on all PC makers. I think Compaq bailed out just in time. I'm a mac user but if I was to switch to a PC it would be a DELL. That said, what has HP gained from CPQ? DELL has far and away the best machines, best service, etc.

Both these mergers remind me of two drowning men trying to save each other.
