I do think high corporate taxes in general have acted as a disincentive to profit. In avoiding taxes companies have taken on debt while putting too much emphasis on generating capital gains for their shareholders over making profits and paying out dividends.

Neither taxes on corporations nor taxes on capital make any economic sense, and produce massive distortion and waste, especially when compliance costs are taken into account. These are all political taxes resulting from appeals to ignorance and envy in the electorate.
