David, France and Russia are being complete hypocrites.

I'm sorry, but this just completely irks me. Almost three years ago, Russia was pushing for the lifting of sanctions:

globalpolicy.org

Contrast this statement made in September, 2000:

In a recent letter to Kofi Annan, UN secretary general, Igor Ivanov, Russia's foreign minister, complained that the government was coming under increasing pressure from the "federal assembly, many social and political interests, and business and industrial circles . . .in favour of mitigating the limitations imposed on Russia by the sanctions in the field of its commercial and economic relations with Iraq."

with this statement made today (http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/europe/view/37785/1/.html):

Separately, Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov said sanctions can't be removed until it is determined whether Iraq is free of banned weapons.

Yep, the exact same guy said this. Ivanov NEVER used the issue of WMD as a requirement for lifting the sanctions UNTIL NOW. That's right, NEVER.

Why are most people (except those considered to be part of the "extreme right") ignoring this? This is a complete outrage, and it only underscores the politics that are now turning the U.N. Security Council into a joke.

They wanted the sanctions lightened or eliminated when Saddam was still in power. No we have removed the threat and just to try to get a slap in on us they say they can't remove the sanctions yet...

Those fine nations about which you are worried:

channelnewsasia.com

They really give a big damn about the Iraqi people!

That's a laugh

But you and Bush care so much......that's the biggest laugh of all!

They want to know one thing: "What's in it for us?" Screw 'em.

Greed.......that's the language you understand, huh?

Excuse me, the US has asked Russia and France to forgive their Iraqi debt [which is considerable] but we don't want to cut them into the action. What would Bush's reaction be to such a proposal? Trust me, the same......they're once again flipping Bush the bird.

Do you see how things get worse by not doing the work necessary to have a creditable foreign policy? This started with Bush playing bombastic superpower, and now both sides are more and more distrustful. In another year, France, Russia and Germany will be our sworn enemies thanks to the laziness and/or incompetency and/or indifference of this administration.

It really pisses me off! It didn't have to be this way. And the American people are going to get stuck footing the bill for Iraq while Bush's corporate friends win contract after contract for the reconstruction. A win-win for Bush; a loss-loss for the American people.
