>>But Islam is terribly repressive of women.<<

You said it. Freudian slip?

But Islam is terribly repressive of women.

You might want to consider rephrasing that sentence.

Muslim female friends I have are not repressed. I am a friend after they have been married, and they do not wear a Burkha when I meet them (regardless of the presence or absence of their husband).
The Muslim weddings I have attended, always included a written "contract", before the deal was finalized, between man-and-woman to specify damages in the event of a divorce.

In the western world we probably call this "pre nuptial" agreement. In the Muslim world it has been standard practice for centuries. It is also a reason why many muslim men do not have 4 wives as is popularly claimed - they have to treat each wife equally and be able to afford the separation costs.
