The signal goes from here, I believe via a transAtlantic cable but it may be via a satellite transponder, to NY and then across the US from there. At the moment, as you see, the ping time to SI (Go2Net) is only 474 msec, which is excellent, but frequently this can rise to over 4000 msec which makes communications almost impossible. For your information and amusement, Hawaii is the antipode from here so SI is almost half way round the world from Johannesburg and the return signal therefore goes a distance of almost the earth's circumference. As you see that takes 0.4 sec and via all the links which I think is amazing.
