The US had a difficult balancing act from the beginning to succeed here. Don't do enough to fix Iraq and they will be blamed after smashing things up, sanctions regime etc. Do too much and stay too long and resentment to the occupation will grow and grow.

That Garner guy or his deputies should have been in Baghdad with military police the day the statue was toppled. But the "siege of Baghdad" went much faster than anyone expected so I guess they weren't ready.
