Germany, Japan, and Italy weren't our countries either. We had a vested interest in assuring they did not revert to former forms. The same applies in Iraq. What they do with their country is very much our business as well, if what results is a threat to our security. To think otherwise is a bit shortsighted.

That fundamentally, is what choice (aka democracy) is all about.

That, logically, is a contradiction, if the result nullifies the option of continued choice. The US will not allow Iraqis to sell themselves into slavery.
